PRR Westbound Freight, #2 of 2, c. 1957
Here is the second of two successive original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. At the left, the end of a westbound mixed-cargo freight train passes the Westbound Empties Receiving Yard visible above it. In the center, an eastbound freight train has just passed ANTIS Tower on its way to the Enola Yards. Further to the right, a string of loaded hopper cars awaits motive power to pull it to Eastern markets. And at the far right, a number of deadlined steam locomotives await their fate.
